Build A Home Library With Quality Gardening Books

Man reading book

Books are still a priceless resource even in the digital age where information is available anytime with just the click of a button.  Call me old-fashioned, but I have an entire bookshelf stocked with good quality gardening and homesteading books.

I regularly pull out my collection of books out and use them: For garden planning, as a reference for the plants I grow, or to get new ideas. My little home library has proven to be an invaluable resource many times. Sure, I can always run to the Internet to find information I might need, but there is something to be said for having your own personal library of gardening books. I like the way a book feels in my hand; and best of all, I can make notes and write in them.

And, let’s face it – you might not always be able to get online to get important information! One of top reasons I garden is to grow food for my family in the event of an extended emergency or crisis. I want to prepare my family for a potential long-term food emergency. In the case of such an event, it’s unlikely that the internet (or electricity for that matter) would be available to me. I would still need access to quality resources to help me grow my own food. That’s why I buy good gardening books!

But I won’t buy just any book out there. I’m very choosy about the books I spend my hard earned money on. Not every book out there is worth the paper it is printed on. At Heirloom Solutions, we carry some of the best gardening books available. Some of them are more widely known books, and others are rare gems we find as we source our seeds. But you can count on one thing – if we carry it, we think it’s a good resource for your home gardening library!

This week I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite books that I use regularly :

What’s Wrong With My Vegetable Garden?

This book is an excellent resource and no gardening library should be without it. This book gives clear, easy-to-follow information on all your favorite gardening varieties.  Plus, it has pictures of problems your vegetables may have, their cause and how to fix them!  The book will be an extremely valuable resource to home gardeners, small farmers, and homesteaders who want to expand their gardening skills across all seasons.

The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener

Another great book for any level of gardening.  Easy to follow, helps you plan for all seasons of gardening.

The Vegetable Gardener’s Container Bible

Best-selling author Ed Smith shows you everything you need to know to successfully create and care for an edible container garden, from choosing the right plants and selecting appropriate containers through controlling pests without chemicals and harvesting fresh vegetables. You’ll discover that container gardening is an easy and fun way to enjoy summer’s bounty in even the smallest of growing spaces.
