Half Pint Pea

Pea Half Pint

The Half Pint Pea is one of the rarest heirloom shelling peas available. It’s a small, dwarf-sized pea plant. Some even call it the “Tom Thumb Pea” because of it’s cute and miniature size. Despite being petite, this plant is a real producer, growing full-sized pods filled with bright green and tasty peas!

The Half Pint Pea plant grows about only about 6 to 8 inches tall making it ideal for patio gardens, container gardens, or for urban gardening. If you are really limited on space, you can even grow these peas in a sunny windowsill. Children love to grow these little cuties too, so include them in the fun by giving them their own container of Half Pint Peas for tending to. (Plus, they make a tasty and crunchy snack, right off the vine, that kids can’t resist!)

The Half Pint Pea came from England and was introduced in America in the 1850s. Because it is so rare, it is sometimes difficult to find. Heirloom seed enthusiasts snap these seeds up very quickly when they become available.

Can withstand a hard frost and an excellent choice for growing in coldframes.

Likes sun. Keep well watered, and pick mature pods frequently for maximum production.
