Love Lies Bleeding is a beautiful, striking plant that commands the onlooker’s attention. It’s one of those beauties in the garden not soon forgotten by visitors. It is also a great plant choice for container gardening and makes an excellent border plant.
Love Lies Bleeding is an annual flowering plant from the Amaranth family. It goes by other common names such as pendant amaranth, tassel flower, velvet flower, and foxtail amaranth. Many parts of the plant are actually edible – including the leaves and seeds. They are used as a popular food source in India and South America.
Love Lies Bleeding can grow several feet tall, even as tall as 8 feet in perfect conditions. It does best in full sun, but can handle a little shade. Heat and humidity don’t seem to bother it a bit. It is easily grown from seed.
Love Lies Bleeding can be started indoors in early spring and transplanted outdoors after the last frost.
