Double Yield Cucumber History
Double Yield Cucumber. Introduced by the Joseph Harris Seed Company in Cold water, New York in 1924. Hailed as the most productive cucumber available at the time. We think it still deserves a spot at the top of the list. Green fruits are 6″ long, dark green and slender. Ideal for pickling and fresh eating. The fruit is perfectly symmetrical, very straight, blunt ends and best picked at 4-5″. Double Yield is extremely prolific and keeping the fruit picked will encourage further fruiting.
Double Yield Cucumber Seeds Growing Instructions
Plant seeds 1 inch deep and about 2 to 3 feet apart in a row, depending on variety (see seed packet for details). For vines trained on a trellis, space plants 1 foot apart. Once plants reach 4 inches in height, thin them to one plant per mound. If you live in the cooler climates, you can help warm the soil by covering the hill or row with black plastic. After planting, mulch around the area with straw, chopped leaves, or another organic mulch to keep pests at bay, and also keep bush types off the ground to avoid disease.
