Marketmore 76 Cucumber History

Dr. Henry Munger from Cornell University originally bred the Marketmore Cucumber and it found its way to U.S. gardeners in 1976. It quickly set the standard for cucumbers in the USA, with its popularity soon spreading throughout Europe. Marketmore is now firmly established as one of the ‘Greats’ of the cucumber world, it is very disease resistant and produces a large amount of fruit.

How To Plant Marketmore Cucumbers

Cucumbers do well in cool and warm climates, will not turn bitter with heat.

Choose a warm, sunny location with humus-enriched soil that drains well. Direct-sow the seed when the soil has reached at least 60° F, planting 1½” deep and 2’ apart in rows 2-3’ apart (those using a trellis can be as close as 10” apart).

In short-season areas, you can start seeds indoors 4 weeks before the last frost date and transplant after the last frost date. Click here to learn more about growing Marketmore 76 Cucumbers.
