(Cucurbita maxima) (aka Pike’s Peak) Introduced by Hiram Sibley and Company in 1887. The original stock was obtained from an elderly woman in Van Dinam, Iowa who had grown the variety for more than 50 years. Unique, slate-blue, teardrop shaped fruits weigh 8-10 pounds. Sweet and flavorful orange flesh. An excellent keeper and a great Midwest heirloom. The taste peaks after the New Year.
