Love sunflowers? If so, you’ll adore this handsome Japanese heirloom.
This plant produces single headed and sturdy 5-6 feet tall plants. (Can be a little taller under optimal growing conditions.) Flowers are 8-10 inches wide with golden petals and smooth, velvety chocolate-colored centers. Great for making cut-flower arrangements and for use in home decorating, or for creating a little spot of happiness and joy in your garden.
Sow seeds directly outdoors after last frost has passed. Sunflowers grow best in full sun but can tolerate a light amount of shade. Plant in well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter, for best results. You should provide support for these tall plants, and/or plant them close together so the stems will naturally support each other.
Blooms late summer to fall; USDA zones 3-10.
